Topic: Suggestion: Tell users they can "save" using their OS's hibernate mode

I'd like to write to the Debian Linux "wnpp" team and suggest that they include Open Sonic directly in Debian, to make it easier to install and upgrade.  But this means that the game will automatically get into the Ubuntu "universe" repository, which many Ubuntu users have enabled.  Alkis Georgopoulos told me on IRC #ubuntu-devel that he doesn't think Ubuntu users will look at the version number and realize the game is still prerelease.  He suggested to me that Open Sonic show a first-run message in-game.  I thought about his idea and have modified it.  I think that before the game gets into Debian and therefore Ubuntu "universe", you should show either:

  • an in-game tip upon starting a new regular-quest 1P game, or

  • a message on the "Quit?" screen that appears when you press Esc,

telling users:  "Open Sonic can't save yet. To save, pause the game then use your PC's Hibernate, Sleep, or Stand By mode."

This wouldn't just be helpful for Debian users:  it would be helpful for all Open Sonic users.  It'd tell them a reasonable way to save their progress.

What do you think?

Great! But I'm still worried because I'm planning to do Palmtree Panic in the editor and I have no patience!!!!!!!!!

Let's stick to the original plan and implement the regular saving system.
