Topic: (free) Upload host for OpenSurge

http://upload.surgeswarehouse.com/upload/uplood.PNG

New location
There where some problems with the old server, so there is a new server.
It is possible that old files on this forum are linked to the old server, the file still exist.
To download the file, replace the first part of the link "http://lc.ssdw.ln/upload/" for "http://upload.surgeswarehouse.com/upload/"

intro
sometimes files disappearing from a file host (like hotshare...).
therefore I have made a upload host for OpenSurge smile .
in this host files don't disappear, and there is no advertising.
everyone in the community can use this website, but there are rules!

Ogg player
It's a lot easier that you can listen to music before you download it smile
So, I added an ogg player.
If your Web browser doesn't have a ogg plug-in then you get the flash player.
After uploading you will receive the link for the player.

Image on forum
Pictures say more than words.
On Surge's uploader You can upload pictures and/or schreenshots.
After uploading you will receive the BBcode of you'r pictures.
Copy this BBcode and past it in the forum.

Explore the files
If you lose you're link or you are just curious you can explore all the files that are uploaded.
go to http://upload.surgeswarehouse.com/upload/ to see and download the files

Rules
There are a few rules.
1) This upload host must only used for OpenSurge. Own levels, objects and MOD are allowed.
2) The file size must not exceed 20 MB.
3) Only zip, rar, lev, spr, obj, chr, def, qst, brk, grp, lng, ogg, wav, xcf, png and jpg(jpeg) can be uploaded.

I'm glad we finally have a way to upload our files without losing them!

I suppose we wouldn't want to lose track of this... so...

Re: (free) Upload host for OpenSurge

How about only resorting to Flash when the browser doesn't support playing ogg files?

Re: (free) Upload host for OpenSurge

I agree about the Flash thing... Flash tends to crash Firefox for me, and it has some vulnerabilities.

Also, I don't quite recommend having people upload images there as well, as storing images hasn't really been a problem. I use Photobucket, and images have not left my accounts, ever... that means 5 years plus. I don't even know if they have a limit, and if they do, you can always make more accounts. Bandwidth for it has never been a problem thus far, and it still doesn't remove the images.

On account that you're gonna need as much space as possible for other things on the Warehouse storage, I recommend the Photobucket alternative. Up to you though... depends on your storage capacity and its reliability over a long time... it shouldn't be a problem for a while, I think, considering the overall size of the game itself, and the limited resources. Just consider it for the future.

do you mean the music is played in the browser, or on a web page (like the old ogg player)?
I do not know how the website can see if you have plug-in to play ogg.
I'll go googling, hopefully I find something

that's true, but it is almost no work to add it (cut and paste).
This was always possible, only now I say it, and you get the bbcode after uploading.

I can always add more memory.
though, it's not unlimited. but for now I have enough memory.
this uploader is more a possibility, it is up to you whether you use it.

I have adapted this.
if you don't have a ogg plug-in, you get the flash player.
See for yourself: http://lc.ssdw.nl/upload/ogg.php?options.ogg

how, exactly? Do we use your uploader to send our content, post it on the forums and you add it to Surge's Warehouse?

I guess I'm unclear, I'm only going to explain step by step.

1) someone wants to add a level/object on surge's warehouse. he/she goes to uploader and click on "Click here to upload to surge's warehouse"
2) that person gives all information about thair level/object (name,Description...) and click on "add to databse".
3) if the files are uploaded and checked, then is level/object immediately added to the database. it is now possible to download the level/object from surge's warehouse. the user receives a download link for the forum or any other website.

There is also a test database, so you can try it yourself!

Oh, yes! There's this new link "Click here to upload to surge's warehouse" that wasn't appearing here. All I had to do is press F5.

this upload site have now 29 MB! and the old upload site have 41 MB. so that is 70 MB.
there is 2,5 GB of space. So plenty of room wink
and if this ever becomes full, then I'll donate 2 euros for another 2,5 GB.
