Topic: Shinobi Densetsu - Construct 2 Version (HTML5)

Since this is no longer a mod, and this community has provided so much good feedback, I feel compelled to share access to the alphas of the new SD. This time we're using Construct 2 as the engine, and the whole game will run primarily in HTML5, which means you can play in your browser, no need to download and install.

We would like this future demo to be the best possible so it can attract fans and people willing to fund the development when we launch crowdfunding campaigns.

Revision Date: October 9 2013

Features:

* Only the test level available for now, since i'm reworking physics, animation triggers and basic movement.
* Physics are now closer to a Sonic game, as intended.

Known bugs:
* some sounds may trigger at the wrong time.
* jumps don't work quite right for now.


If you want to provide feedback, please say what revision date you are referring to.
Remember to always refresh the game's cache by pressing CTRL+F5 after opening the link.

that's a very good idea. smile here's a bug: the player gets locked up on the wall (i no longer press anything in the keyboard, and the ball keeps rotating)

Very Nice KZR. You've done some great things with this game.

However I think this Develpment stage isn't an Alpha, it's more like an Engine Test (Two Dev. Phases before Alpha).

Thanks Alex, i believe that bug is due to the fact that besides that circle which processes physics, there is also an invisible rectangle processing basic platform movements and events (walls, ground, etc.), and probably that rectangle is causing bad collisions. The plans are to let the physics object mimic platform movement completely, but we're not quite there yet.

S32X, it's maybe a pre-alpha, yes.

I just though it was an Engine Test is becuase it uses a somewhat primitive software, has no sound, not much interaction except for the floors, and the player's moving around on this wheel....

It reminded me of this.

The player is moving about on a wheel because we are trying to get down the way physics should be handled, the software will get more complicated as I and KZR have time to work on it and make it better.  In fact, those black platforms won't be visible in the final edition, but they will be what you are moving on nonetheless.  Though it may not be the public Alpha here is my testbox, it has the parts I am messing with and I generally export to it once an hour when I'm working, feel free to play with it if you want to.

Keep in mind, you can press either left click or space to attack with a melee weapon against Mr. Blue Ninja, and can reflect his projectiles at him, also keep in mind after you have the cookie it may take you several refreshes to get the latest version of the game, also keep in mind I do not have the wheel in here yet, so the physics are a bit different.

did you refresh with ctrl+F5 ? i thought i had that fixed. he doesn't move as fast as before.

Please note, because of the way your browser caches information it may take you several refreshes to get the 'latest' version of the game.  Sorry that it has to be that way, but as of right now I do not know a way to make it work any other way.  I can put in a version string in the top right corner that should change when you get the proper version....I'll have to do that later tonight.

after exporting to exe the game runs A LOT faster, which leads me to believe my browser (Firefox) is really slow, thus making me not notice this. I'll work on it.

in order to work on the physics, maybe you can use the time difference between two consecutive frames of the game, thus making the game behave the same way in different browsers?

You mean Delta time, right? The physics engine (Box2D) manages that on its own, the thing is that when the browser renders graphics in HTML5, each browser has a different speed, even when using WebGL. I remember a few time ago, someone sent me a link to test how fast my browser (Firefox 18.0.2 Win x64) performs graphically, and it performed terribly. unfortunately i don't have the link anymore, but i'll ask again, so we can compare results and see which browser is best for this case.

As for managing the speed to be the same in every browser, i'm unsure which logic to use, since by default all Construct 2-based programs run at 60 FPS and that's managed internally.

I use Chrome, which is by my knowledge the best browser out there. So the information was coming at full speed, I guess that's why the processor was moving so fast.

haven't looked into the speed issue yet, but some goodies will be up in the next revision:

A prototype level is also being worked on (the one in the image). All this will be available once the speed issue is solved smile
