Topic: [request] sound effect for the boss

I can't seem to get this right. We have this big wolf boss, and it punches the floor. This needs a sound effect. I tried to find something on freesound.org - nothing; I also tried to come up with something on sfxr, but the pitch is too low:

please, can somebody help? hmm

(a loud roar, i.e., the big wolf screaming, would also be welcome)
(a sound for when Surge hits the boss would also be welcome)

here's a screenshot:

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

Wow. We are starting to get to this. I didn't expect the wolf to be so huge! I could make a sound effect.

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

the wolf also gets angry tongue
and it roars, but no sound effect is played atm

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

The floor sound is good, but from the look of the images there's water splashing up when he hits the ground. Maybe we should have 5-6 different water splashes to acompany the floor sounds. Shouldn't be that hard to record if one has a rock and a bucket. Currently the winter is pretty harsh here in Sweden, but I'll see if I can find something heavy enough to drop in my bucket.

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

although it looks like a water splash, i think it's just a cosmetic effect to help visualize the pounding on the ground.

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

I tried the boss. It's Hard When the wolf's fist drops I barely have enough time to react when it raises, and by that time it's no longer a solid object. So could we have the fist stay a solid object for about a second when it returns back in the air?

sure, but let me ask you something first. You say it's too fast. Did the boss get angry at you? roll

can you more or less explain the outline of your typical battle/?

did somebody besides S32X try the boss? Please, if you try, give some feedback. Bleeding edge -> stage select -> sunshine paradise act 3.

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

i did try and figured how to beat him... until he got angry and started pounding everywhere

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

I'm just saying for a first level boss it shouldn't be so difficult. The gereral tactic of Sunshine Paradise was for the player to get the feel of the game

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

What strikes me the most is how HUGE that boss is. A downsize to 60% smaller would be preferable. The player is supposed to hit the nose? A bit of pedagogy wouldn't hurt at all. The wolf needs to say something. "Try to knock me out, if you dare", or a small animation needs to be played to show how to defeat him. This must be adressed, or this game risk getting avoided and forgotten. StarCraft II has tutorial videos showing what the units do, Super Mario RPG even has small mini games teaching the potential player how to play the game, as well as battle bosses.

Just my two cents:

QFT. There's the wolf enemy about Surge's size, and there's this boss that appears to be at least 15x larger.

2. The boss doesn't look "scary" enough. Well, not really related to the scripting, but this one, I just want to express.

3. I haven't beaten the boss yet. However, I can tell that, from the way I try avoiding the attacks (I spindash under the boss' fists to avoid its attacks and run back to hit it), I can see that Surge's acceleration is somewhat lacking. IMO it needs to be raised without messing up the gravity.

Yeah. This. About half of the time I try going up the hands, they (the hands) lose their "solid" property and I fall off. This has to be fixed, IMO.

How many hits does it take? If it's 10 hits with such attacks that make it too hard to be a first level boss, either decrease its life count or make the attacks less extreme, with an example being reducing the pounding move somewhat.

P.S.: And, yeah, I'm back, if any of you know me.

No it only takes 6. But it starts goin' nuts when you hit it 3 times

you mean, the graphics. Can this be changed?

i know what you mean. I put some small cross on his head, but apparently it's not visible enough. Maybe we could draw a band-aid on his head? Can this be done?

Here is a bandage sprite. Let me know if it is any good.

How's this?

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

k so forgive me for being a bit bossy here, but...

1. I think the wolf should be black with purple hints of flowing dark energy.
2. Completely red eyes are not too realistic, hah. I'd make the iris red and the pupils a darker red, but I wouldn't be so sure about the sclera...

So, yeah, I'm not really sure if a natural color is menacing for a magic-controlled creature.

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

The completely red eyes is supposed to show like he's possesed by Gimacian. Plus, it doesn't really matter if we're realistic or not.

Realism is not a limit.

Which is why

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

Lets keep this topic on topic please, while the overall look of the boss is important it is also important that we argue about such things in the proper places.  Perhaps in a submission thread where we can get a few different graphical takes at what the boss should look like, then we can get critique until we get the wolf who looks right for the game.  This topic is about sound effects for the boss, lets limit the scope of the conversation here and move the arguments about the look into a new thread.

If I knew then what I know now I'd tell you that the story's true.  Cause whatever you do, it comes back to you.  -Slaughter, Burning Bridges

Thank you svgmovement, it's very good. I'll be uploading a new bleeding edge soon smile

Re: [request] sound effect for the boss

so, grab the latest bleeding edge (741+)

the boss, featuring the bandage, is easier now. It waits a few moments before it opens its hands - so you can more easily hit his head - and it also dies after four hits. When it gets mad, you just need to hit it once. smile
