Re: [SUBPROJECT] Introduction cutscene

end of day #12,

no progress. I understand you guys are busy with school, university, work, personal issues etc., but please make an effort to meet the deadline. Meeting deadlines is crucial for this project, specially because we don't have anything to fall back on. This small community is everything we have at the moment.

There are two weekends until the deadline, so there is still some time. smile

end of day #14

Bad news ...

Race told me his computer had crashed, so he won't be able to finish the art tasks. Here are some sketches he left to us (at least they can be used as placeholders):
http://upload.surgeswarehouse.com/uploa … heroes.jpg
http://upload.surgeswarehouse.com/uploa … hedark.jpg
http://upload.surgeswarehouse.com/uploa … bjects.jpg

Anyway, except for the art, we're sticking to the original deadline. If you can draw, please help us out on this.

end of day #15,

are there any updated percentages? now we're dangerously late. sad

Re: [SUBPROJECT] Introduction cutscene

OK, Let's boost this percentage up a bit.

Download intro.zip

Here's what me and KZR have made so far.

The pictures are placeholders. Oh man are they placeholders. You'll see what I mean. roll

With this scripting should be around the 90s.

Re: [SUBPROJECT] Introduction cutscene

This is getting very nice. I really like the presentation you guys are developing. Some points of criticism:

- I forgot to add this to the specifications (sorry), but if the player presses enter or esc, the cutscene must be skipped immediately

- you must use a .ttf font for the subtitles, as they support a wide range of special characters, which are needed in certain translations. Bitmapped fonts like "default" are very limited in this sense.

- the .default_startup must not be spawned

- it'd be nice to have the start of the text not exactly at the left border of the window: it should be translated a little bit to the right, so there would be some margin

This is getting very good! Go for it! smile

do you scripting guys need some help with the issue of the appearing-text at a given speed? Did you understand the $pos += $speed * dt() thing we were discussing earlier?

I'm back, guys! big_smile
And Brought a update:

I like picture of Surge and company, but the gate and scepter doesn't seem detailed enough in my opinion.

-I suggest different backgrounds for each one to reduce monotony (the gate is in a cave, so try a setting in that).

-The gate still looks too 'ms paint' in my opinion (though I like the glowing sphere).

-The scepter looks a bit blurry.

The first picture still looks awesome though. big_smile

Re: [SUBPROJECT] Introduction cutscene

I agree. The backgrounds aren't quite right, and the gate is too 'mspaint'. Also, there are some non-fitting white pixels at the border of the characters. On the fullscreen mode, this will be very noticeable.

There are some backgrounds you can download from http://opengameart.org/browse-menu/images/38/10. If you do use them, however, please check the licenses carefully and give the credits accordingly. It's just a suggestion, though: you don't need to use them if you don't want to.

Re: [SUBPROJECT] Introduction cutscene

OK, so more criticism:

1. Are the characters standing on water?

2. The gate and scepter both looks like they're floating in midair. We need some foreground.

3. The gate and scepter still looks too MS paint. Try changing the outlines to something other than black (like a darker color as the outline instead of pure black) and putting a design on the door. It looks too bland.

4. It looks too much like you just pasted one picture into another. There needs to be some art style blending in. Try to make the scepter and gate look like they fit in with their surroundings.

5. The scepter is in the Dimensional Gate's realm, not a cave. However, this isn't your fault as none of us have any idea what this place is going to look like.

However, we're getting closer.

The backgrounds were not meant to show where the characters (and objects) actually are.

I do not know where I can put more effects in the gate and scepter. sad

Re: [SUBPROJECT] Introduction cutscene

have we settled with cutscene duration at 45 seconds? it would be good to know to do as few takes as possible, since it's being hard to have time to record.

SilverstepP,  our HNNNNNNNNNNNNG (weren't you Moderator? roll ) did you do anything with the script or do you need me to do anything? i tried looking you up tonight but i didnt find you online. pm me if you need something.

45 seconds seems like the best, in the opinion of the HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG.

Re: [SUBPROJECT] Introduction cutscene

I think the scepter and the gate pics are already ok. The scepter is already good enough considering our current development level. A more detailed texture (like you did in the gate), would improve it.

About the gate, even though we don't know how the dimensional realm looks like now, in my opinion it's already good enough to tell the story.

Regarding Surge & friends, that background isn't good. Maybe we should just leave a plain, black background for it. All backgrounds in the cutscenes are dark anyway.

For Gimacian's slide, there are some other dark backgrounds you can get from OpenGameArt. There are some good ones in this link, but you're free to decide if you're going to use these or not.

SilverstepP, I know we didn't continue the explanation of the other day (yet), but were you able to understand the dt() thing and how you would apply it to the appearing text?

Good work big_smile I think it's very nice now, though the fire of Neon's jetpack is still missing.

Also, we're still missing Gimacian's picture. How is the % now, so I can update the chart?
