We need a logo for Open Surge. This logo will be everywhere: in the game itself, in our website, in blogs around the net, etc. As such, it's very important to be a polished logo.
I think the project is progressing and, currently, there are only a few ripped graphics to replace (compared to a dozen some months ago). Now it's time for us to get our own logo and drop Open Sonic for good.
Some time ago KZR came up with a sketch: http://i54.tinypic.com/13ygd3n.png
Please don't be shy. Send your ideas!

The game is about surge, so I think it is better to add surge in the logo, and not a weird shape.
This logo I had created for Surge's warehouse.
(it is made for a blue background.)

I still have this:
And plenty of different types can be made in GIMP using the Filters... it's got tons of neat special effects, and combining them can make even more interesting stuff.

It doesn't fit the game... firstly, none of the heroic characters are associated with purple. Plus, I don't think the claw marks accurately represent what the characters do. Try going for 'electric' or 'lightning' of some sort.
However, on the other side, we also have the clawed shadow beasts attacking you. However I don't think the logo should represent them if they aren't main characters.
Try something along the lines of what KZR did.

"Less is more"

It would work... if the sprite version actually looked something like that... but it doesn't. On a smaller scale, like on your Surge's Warehouse logo, any difference is unnoticeable. But at that scale, the difference is rather apparent, unfortunately. I mean, it does look cool, but it's not what we have here...
Oh, and for my logo attempt, I was actually aiming for Sonic-like spikes (except without actually putting Sonic), but if you didn't know what they were, then it's probably not a good idea to let anyone else take a guess.

Choose a scale!
I am more familiar with Inscape now. This logo is made with Inscape, so resizing is easy!
what do you think? Be honest!

Oh! Now that I didn't think of to solve the problem...
2 & 3 With small text off the image area, or normal text on the image area.
4 & 5 With text next to the image area (much like your Surge's Warehouse Logo).
The text, of course, would be "Open Surge", just stylized in a unique way... maybe one that would be characteristic to Open Surge itself... might need to look up special free, open fonts.

I think the best way to test whether a logo fits or not is to modify the .spr's and put it in the title screen.
Regarding ssdw's latest attempt - and I hope he doesn't mind with some criticism -, I think it's a start, but it needs much more polishing. We can't just put it in the title screen and say it's good.

I want to improve myself. I am quite pleased with comment.
I was thinking about a light effect, and maby a glow around the logo.

Oh, it has to be in the title screen too? I was thinking of only on sites. I thought the title screen would be large, high-quality versions of the characters.

is this better?
EDIT: with transparent background
It doesn't fit the game... firstly, none of the heroic characters are associated with...
...dark blue (No, the small amount of blue on Charge doesn't count). Plus it kinda seems like a ripoff of the Sonic Icon that was used for Sonic Team's logo, down to the color.
It needs to be a bit unique. Try some kind of logo that subtly refers to the characters instead of sticking a big 'surge head' to represent it. KZR, again, took the right direction. And, even if it is a big Surge head, try to use colors that refer to Surge. (Orange, especially)
Maybe this is just me though. Any thoughts about my opinion?

I agree.
There's an article on How to design a logo by Just Creative Design. I can't emphasize enough on how much that article is important.

okey I will try it.

I created a backdrop for the animation. Maybe not the best solution, but it is at least something to replace the open sonic logo with:
I thought that it is better to separate the title elements into different images. It needs an animation though to make it complete.

Oh for the love of...
I said it three times.
Colors associated with the heroes. Blue is not the right choice.

Thank you very much for your attempt jobro, but unfortunately SilverstepP is right.
Not only because of the colors, but these little spikes outside the ball are part of Sonic, but not part of Surge.
Furthermore, a logo must say something even in black and white. Every submission so far commits the same mistake: the more special effects one adds to it, the worse it gets. Please, please, please read this: http://justcreativedesign.com/2008/01/0 … gn-a-logo/ .
I really do think that the image below is the best idea so far, as it's simple and effective, but it does not have the right execution (i.e., not polished enough):
I'm not saying you guys can't be creative and try other things, but I'm saying the idea behind this one is good. I think it's worth improving this.

^^^ I second that.

Race sent this:
Ooh... I like the concept. Maybe we could animate the lightning bolt.
Offline
I also like the concept.
My only criticism to that concept, and I said that to Race, is that the lighting bolt does not look like an 'S'. The ring means 'O' and the bolt, 'S', therefore we have OS, which means Open Surge.*
Other than that, Surge's ears in the first O look great, as well as the font he used.
The minified logo would be just the ring+lighting bolt, where the full logo (in the title screen) would be everything.
* In fact, this OS thing is KZR's idea
