Topic: Suggestion: Bulk Delete Bricks and Items in Editor Mode

Say you misplaced a very large group and you have to delete it... you'll have to spend a lot of time clicking away at each individual brick and item to get rid of the problem... and it's time consuming to do so.

Perhaps we should make it so that if 'backspace' or a similar button is held down when the cursor even goes over an object, that the brick gets deleted... so running the mouse across the screen can clean up unwanted bricks and items (depending on whats selected).

Any thoughts?

Re: Suggestion: Bulk Delete Bricks and Items in Editor Mode

Sounds good. Why not add a selection tool to mark the bricks you want to delete. Then:

press backspace to delete the selected bricks
press x to cut the objects into the clipboard
press c to copy the objects to the clipboard
press v to paste the objects from the clipboard
press d to delete the clipboard content
press r to rotate the clipboard content
press q to lower the zindex
press e to raise the zindex

when objects is in the clipboard you should see the objects centered around the cursor, this is the best way to know what one is doing. This approach is allready being used by the free online 3D game Atmosphir, but with a few extra features.

I think if we implement an entire system like this should wait until the new physics system is done first.

Plus, deleting whats on the clipboard seems useless when you can just overwrite whats on it (not to mention that 'd' is already used in the editor as a scrolling key), I'm sure we can't do the last two very easily (however, the new physics system should cover this with layered loops). Plus, we have the ability to make groups...

Personally, I just wanna keep it nice and simple to 'hold down backspace and your cursor becomes an eraser'.

Ctrl+Z = undo
Ctrl+Y = redo

Say you tested the level already and CANT undo it.

Re: Suggestion: Bulk Delete Bricks and Items in Editor Mode

I don't have any plans to make a super complex level editing tool. Something like that can still be achieved with an external tool made by a community member, like ssdw's Level Creator.

You're right.

Sounds good. smile Additionally, can you draw a small eraser sprite to replace the cursor when you're holding backspace (or delete...) ?

Hehe, I'm on it!

There you go.

Re: Suggestion: Bulk Delete Bricks and Items in Editor Mode

in 385 you'll hold delete to enable the eraser. of course, the eraser will only delete objects of the selected entity type (brick, item or object)

Awesome, just as I had hoped!

sorry to revive the topic, but could we also have a brush and a paint bucket?

It's an useful request, as many others are, but this one is very difficult due to the fact that bricks (and worse, groups) have an irregular shape, not to mention our serious time constraints and our large list of priorities.

I think it would be wiser if someone created and maintained an external level editor program, similar to ssdw's Level Creator.

I'm sorry.

Re: Suggestion: Bulk Delete Bricks and Items in Editor Mode

couldn't the brush be adapted from the eraser? i mean, instead of Del, it could be Insert and every 16/64 pixels a new brick/group would be created. i know it's a probably time consuming request, but after 100000's of clicks building a level becomes tiresome. I understand that now is not a good time, but it would be a good thing to have someday.
