Well, yeah.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

One more suggestion: Release a spritesheet that contains only parts of Charge. Head only, gloves only, body only, and shoes only; they're the most important. The best idea is to release two versions of them: straight and rotated 45 degrees.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

This spritesheet is looking good! I still can't beleive this was made in MS Paint. One thing that bugs me though, is that when Charge is in his 'hurt' pose, in my opinion, I think he looks like...um...a female.

Edit: Never Mind.

(LOL CHARGE IS A GIRL LOL)

I disagree. Don't know why you think that.

What I think really should be improved is the climbing animation. When he's glued on a wall, his arms and his chest form a right angle. That's not coherent. His hands should be grabbing the wall. Think of a real human climbing a wall. I tried to fix it, but the sprite got awful.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

I tried modifying and rearranging the spritesheet. It isn't all that perfect, but I tried the best I could:

Re: Playable Character: Charge

I played nightbuild 314, and much to my surprise Charge is a tad bit bigger than the rest of the characters.

Tha's the idea. He's the oldest. And his sprite definition size is also larger.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

By the way, why not make Charge's moves out of Dustin? Just modify your previous spritesheet with Charge's body parts.

Dustin's climbing wasnt too well-made either....

Plus, I wanted this to be unique.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

Tried revision 314 today, and I must say that I liked the overall look of charge, however there were certain things which jumped out at me that I thought I would let you know about.
1. Charge's legs don't move when he's climbing.  I'm not sure if this was intended but it definitely calls attention to itself.
2. He kind of reminds me of a robot when he's running, he doesn't lean forward and his feet seem to stay in the same animation at a faster speed.
3. He has no look up animation.
Other than that, good job to everyone who worked to make this sprite better. smile

If I knew then what I know now I'd tell you that the story's true.  Cause whatever you do, it comes back to you.  -Slaughter, Burning Bridges

Re: Playable Character: Charge

I have an idea for a new movement, crawling.
than can he (or she) under low bricks.
than can made secret passages in levels, where only he (or she) can go wink .

it's just an idea http://serve.mysmiley.net/ashamed/ashamed0006.gif

Or we could use digging as Alex suggested a while back. Srsly, look at his claws. They're pratically made for it.  big_smile

that's a great idea, but this is also possible in sonic colors!

Re: Playable Character: Charge

No, but just below the surface.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

Also, I think the limbs should be considerably thicker. See the original Sonic characters for a good reference. Right now, I have trouble discerning his limbs... he's mostly a stick-figure. tongue

Re: Playable Character: Charge

Oops... I'm gonna have to double post. Here's how I think Charge should look more like:
http://i991.photobucket.com/albums/af33/J0nnJ0nes/Charge-ultimate-test.png

I only got the one fixed, particularly because there is a need for general editing of the sprite. I have never seen such a gangly creature like this except a giraffe! tongue But, on a more serious note, the legs need to be shorter and the body needs to be a bit lower and longer. I'll try to do it, but I'm not too sure on how to keep the animations smooth other than copy and pasting a base and adding parts. I compared the thickness of the limbs to the original Sonic ones, and they seem to be all right... just the lengths and proportions were throwing me off. Tell me what needs changing! Shinyness a bit different maybe?

I can do this enhancement on any character... the key is blurryness (not so solid lines) and gradients of colors. Mostly modeled off the ripped ones in the current game release, at least in terms of general style, although I use more color shades. Here's the somewhat edited sprite sheet if you wanna see the details changed:

Re: Playable Character: Charge

if you are going to apply blurring, make sure to avoid purple pixels in the borders.

This is an improvement.

Like the blur, but I don't like the smile that much. Also the shoes are a tad bit small.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

Yes, I'll clean up the purple pixels when it's complete. I'd also like to test it in-game, but I haven't looked into making the right files for it yet (as the improved ones have different dimensions and all).

Hmmm... not a smile eh? His mouth needed to be wider/longer, so I gave him a smile. What should it be instead? A line? A frown?

The shoes... yeah, with the blurring, it did shorten, although I think that particular position had short shoes to begin with... I'll tweak it a bit. Also, I was wondering... the climbing ones look like they're for a rope, not a wall. I'll try changing it.

Not to mention, the original Sonic had some particular things, if you take a look at the ripped sprites. I don't know if they are used in OS, but there are full-body sprites at times when spinning, producing a very nice effect (something like the illusion of wheels spinning backwards at some speeds). I think I'll try to add some for this too... so the final resulting sprite page might be larger. The feet, in the ripped sprites, are also stretched while running. Should it be so in these? Maybe I ought to see in-game first, to judge properly.

I'll change the hair to be more flowing, like a flag billowing in the wind, not just bouncing up and down.

So, any arguments against any of these?

All in all, lots to change... I sure have a full plate, so it might take a while. But first thing's first: I gotta get the files working to see these sprites in-game. The thing is, all my other games have gotten to be boring or a pain, so making this has actually gotten to be quite interesting and fun (as compared to tedious, as I thought it would be).

EDIT: Actually quite a few animations are missing, so first I'll make a parts list of what can be used, then add bit by bit to fill all the animation slots. Also, I wonder, do the "(custom)" animations actually work? I don't even know what some are supposed to be or do.

Re: Playable Character: Charge

bump.

Can we get the following additional animations, please? We need them:

- looking up
- pushing a wall
- breathing underwater (air bubble)
- ledge

http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/wiki/ind … Characters

edit: forgot the ledge animation

Also an improved climbing animation. I can probably make a 'looking up' and 'air bubble' animation pretty easily though, but I tried climbing multiple times and I always wound up really messing up the sprites...

EDIT:

I tried the looking up animation:

Thoughts?
