Topic: T-bar zipline

I'm not sure how this object is called in English.
if anyone knows the good name, say it  please.
Now I call it tyrolean traverse.
the design is temporary.

the Tyrolean traverse follows the lines.
make sure the Tyrolean traverse touches the line.
it's don't no matter which way the line rises.

Download: http://LC.ssdw.nl/levels/Users/tyrolean_traverse.zip

enjoy!

Re: T-bar zipline

New Version!
the design is modified, and more opportunities in the rope.
It is now possible to assemble against the ropes, a kind of orbit (see screenshots).

http://lc.ssdw.nl/ww1.png
This is a simple way wink
if the rope is finished, it will automatically stop

http://lc.ssdw.nl/ww2.png
it is also possible to cross the rope.

http://lc.ssdw.nl/ww3.png
as I have said before, you can make your own driveway.
kinda like a few things in mind.
it can only change direction as the rope goes down slowly, not fast.
the bottom rope should protrude slightly (as in the picture)

if someone knows the correct English name of this object, please say it!
enjoy!

That's a t-bar zipline! Nice!

Um, one thing though, why does it only seem to recognize Surge? And teleports him there if I use a different character? Perhaps different colored t-bars could be used to represent the characters that can use them xD.

I hit it with Charge or Neon and it just places Surge there. Perhaps I'll revise it a bit myself, but try to experiment with it some more...

this only happens the first time, hence I had not seen it.
I had observe_player "surge" put in the wrong place.
this is now fixed, same download link (http://LC.ssdw.nl/levels/Users/tyrolean_traverse_11.zip).

Re: T-bar zipline

I'm making a modification to this that allows ALL THREE CHARACTERS to use the zipline. I'll be sure to post it here as soon as I iron the bugs out.

Re: T-bar zipline

that is so awesome! very very nice, ssdw.

can you make it work with all the three characters? you'd just need to add a few more states (copy & paste basically) and modify your main state to observe the three characters and, depending on which one is being observed, jump to the correct state when a collision is detected.

Lol. xD

My method involves the t-bar spawning two more t-bars just like it in the exact same spot... and it recognizing the player you play as. Upon activation of the t-bar, the other two t-bars go invisible and inactive. I'm also modding it so you don't have to necesarily touch the t-bar, only a rectangle below it, as I found it frustrating to hit correctly. I'm also speeding the slide speed up a bit.

I have no idea how this should be made, I'm very curious how you do this smile

Wouldn't work as he put 'SD_SONIC' 25 in all the states. They'd be observed... but they'd turn into Sonic... x_X

My solution works! xD

Now I'm gonna make the art just a bit better and release it asap... I'm in school so uploading sites are blocked at the moment.

That's why you'd need more states: to change the SD_SONIC animation according to the states.

If your solution works as well and it's transparent for the designers, then it's perfectly fine too. smile

I made it myself, so yes it's reliable.
it is not ready yet, but it works for now.
all files are uploaded now will remain.

Lol. Talk about humble. :-p (jk)

Anyhow, I ran into a bug. It turns out the tbar object itself can't be deleted for some reason (you can always go into the .lev folder, but still inconvenient to the player. I've ran into this issue before and I don't know how to fix it, and I'll leave it as is for now so I can get some help :-p). Other than that, it works perfectly in the level.

Just wait a bit, I'll get it out soon... but I'd like to experiment with it a bit first to make it as good as it can be.

what do you mean? Is the object itself that is not being deleted or is it some of its spawned child?

Re: T-bar zipline

destroy is not convenient, it would mean that only one time can be used.

Re: T-bar zipline

I mean when I left-click the t-bar, it doesn't delete, no matter how many times I click it... I can't get rid of it in the editor. I'm not saying to destroy it on purpose, but say you misplace the t-bar and want it gone, you can't delete it through the editor.

It might be because of where the hotspot is placed.  I've found that in order to delete an object you must be fairly close to the specified hotspot, so try clicking around the object and see if it removes it.

Re: T-bar zipline

It's not that. I'm clicking right on the hotspot; right in the middle. It has something to do with creating child objects or something... I'll have to look into it.

Also, a bug with the old is that it sometimes continued a bit off track and THEN released me... I will create a connecter pole that ends it instantly to prevent this that also doubles as a decoration (because how would a rope like that stay suspended without connections anyhow :-p).

Re: T-bar zipline

OK, let me try this ssdw style...

http://lc.ssdw.nl/levels/Users/t-bar_sspp_revision.zip

I can't copypaste the link from the uploader, I had to type it manually in wordpad... plus I tried uploading 2 other files and I couldn't get the links to work since they had spaces and caps in them...

OK, all you must do is put the tbar on the path, and it will detect your character. The pole is optional, and will stop the character cold even if he's still on path. The artwork is different... and I added one new image. Study the code a bit, you'll understand how I did it. xD

I sped it up, and took off the final bounce at the end (a bit unneeded, and good for keeping speed.) I may add a few more track pieces to this to make it even more interesting (particularly a horizontal piece).

EDIT: Aw crud, there's extra black pixel stuff on the lower lines. Fixed. Sorry ssdw, that makes FOUR files...

EDIT 2: And I thought it was fixed but now the path is FRAGMENTED. 'Sigh' another revision coming soon, I suppose.

EDIT 3: FEH. I WAS OFF BY ONE PIXEL IN THE SPR. Man, I hate it when that happens!!!!!

Now it's finally fixed. ssdw, that makes FIVE now. But I promise, that's it. If another mistake occurs I'll go to another download site. Hopefully this version is ok, so far so good.

EDIT 4: Considering, going to another site wouldn't prove that ssdw's downloader works... I've got some more problems to fix. The old ones just need to be deleted. Hopefully this won't be a problem..

I have a question, can I study your code to attempt to figure out a problem I'm having with my water object?

Anyone's free to study it. As soon as I get this d*** thing working.

See, there's something wrong with returning the state to normal (it stops working for the characters) when you put multiple t-bars in close range due to change_closest_object_state. I have to fix this. Ssdw will probably kill me for making another dl but the bug has to be fixed... I'd delete them myself if I knew how.

Re: T-bar zipline

OK! I think I FINALLY got this working for good!

http://lc.ssdw.nl/levels/Users/t-bar_new.zip

Much trial and error went into this, let me tell you.... I was up all night getting this thing fixed. I have had the bar fall off, spawn 300 of itself, sonic turned into knuckles, knuckles turned into tails, the bar worked only once, the bar never worked, the bar only worked for one character...

Now, it should work for every character and reset the bar you went down REGARDLESS of the other T-Bar positions. Also, the t-bar falls off at the end. Study the code, and you'll learn how I did it.

Please, PLEASE tell me if you find any bugs this time, lol.

Important note: Now this must end with a pole to reset everything correctly. Experiment around with this item and most importantly, have fun. xD

How many times did you actually do this?

Your teacher asks you. What to answer? Say this:

... a few.... lol

I didn't stay up that long. It took about 4 hours and I'm going to bed @ normal time.

Regardless, it was a bit frustrating to deal with so many bugs. I'm just glad I finally found the solution.

I don't have this problem, I will add a form field with the link.
anyone can use this site as long as the files intended for open surge.
