Sonic and the Magical Stone (9-10-2010) - Download Demo : )

9 - 10 - 2010

As promised here is a demo of my quest. Since I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish this 100% before the end of September I decided to include a bigger demo.

It is recommended that you do not merge your OpenSonic folder with this quest. They use different objects and images that could cause conflicts between the two versions. Please keep them in their own separated folder.

Included:

Spider Hill Zone Act 1
Jungle Jamboree Act 1
Wind Chime Zone Act 1
Wind Chime Zone Act 2
Mantic Ruins Act 1

Silly Extra Stage xD

The silly extra stage was a test stage created to, well test the oil ocean barrel /pipe mechanics.
Collect as many rings as you can! smile

I'll appreciate all feedback since the Spider Hill version is a little old version and in sort of a different style to the later stages.

What do you think works best?
Which is your favorite stage?
What about the music? (Sorry, Bridge Zone music is for later.)

My favorite acts before the backup loss were Mantic Ruins 2 and the Prison Block Zone. You might notice they are not here. Last zone consisted of three acts, including lava more enemies and more challenges. Those will take more time to recover so for now these will do.

-- There was an error in jungle jamboree, a loop was missing a Loop Off tag, but its been updated.

http://www.mediafire.com/?wk7fu3pfcr12jc5 Here is the update if you notice any error.
File goes in levels folder.

Have fun playing! smile

P.S.: I'm not sure if its a problem with the engine or my computer. Sometimes the title screen music doesn't play. Neither does the invincibility music or speed shoes song. Also the spikes collision box should be tweaked. And um there is no way to change the speed and invincibility music is there? ^^u

=====================================================================================

9 - 7 - 2010

Using a pendrive recovery program in ubuntu I was able to at least recover the spritesheets making the recovery process more swiftly.
This friday I will post a pack containing act 1 of Spider Hill Zone, Jungle Jamboree and Wind Chime Zone. Feedback will be much appreciated. smile

I agree! The springs look a bit different... this gives me an idea. Perhaps we should make original springs... we already have doors and switches, (I think).

Also, are those sprites from Sonic Rush? If so, where did you get those? I want to make something using pre-made sprites just for fun...

Re: Sonic and the Magical Stone (9-10-2010) - Download Demo : )

The sprites I'm taking stuff from here and there from Advanced and Rush games to make new ones xD

And yes I changed the springs also doors. They are actually prerendered 3D xD

As for the background its a mixture of 2D and 3D, sadly the face mountains lost some quality in the process, but I'll remake it later.

Next levels are Angel Island Zone (After it was burned in sonic 3) with act 1 being the run around the island and act 2 the emerald temple on the island.

Ah... the Spriter's Resource... I forgot all about that! That IS an excellent site...

(P.S. the checkpoint looks epic. Enough said!)

Wouldn't it be great if it would spin based on player movement? xD

Well, not if it's a loop. If you're going for 'hamster wheel effect', then sure. Now, spinning the wheel to make one of the slots match up with something to open a door that way... that would be awesome. Too bad we can't really do that.

Thought crossed my mind tongue

So much ideas that could be used in a casino stage....

P.S: I hope Sonic Colors has a Casino Themed stage.

Um, no. As in 'spin the roulette correctly to open the door'.

That's awesome, wrath. Is there an estimated release date set already? cool

I think he's asking how did wrath put that orange Sonic-ish image behind the "CASINO DISTRICT" text.

I don't know how he did it; maybe he simply changed some image directly, maybe he modified the source code a bit to fit his needs. Both are possible. Anyway, that's an interesting hack. wink

He probably changed the image directly. That's how I am attempting to change a few things. I'm even attempting to make my own player sprite now, since this kind of motivated me. The custom player sprite will NOT be easy, though...

That symbol was used in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for Knuckles' stages... I can recognize a lot of stuff in his levels, as well, from Sonic Advance 3, Sonic 2, and other games. What impresses me is how he puts them together so well that they fit together!

Yes I changed the image directly xD Good one recognizing it from sonic adventure 2.
The new Act title screen will only be used for the Stella set of levels.

I'm very glad you guys like it. it's been a tough job creating new sprites taking pieces from every Sonic Game xD

As for a release date well, I hope its, um soon xD. But being realistic I still have to fix levels from the first set ( Wind Chime,Chilly Winter, Egg Corridor). And I've only finished 2 zones of the Stella part. DX Plus this is kind of a one man army xD

So far the Zone list is as follows:

Part 1: Sonic rescues Stella

Spider Hill Zone
Wind Chime Zone
Jungle Jamboree
Chilly Winter Zone
Mantic Ruins
Underground Prison Block

Part 2: Stella is rescued; searches for her pendant.

Leaf Tribe Zone
Return to Angel Island
Emerald Altar
Casino District
Hidden Runway
Radical Airship

Part 3:
Final Zone: Moon Fortress

Hmm i'll add this info on top xD
