Sunshine Paradise Boss

I've been making this in the past 3 days. Download rev 725+ and play Sunshine Paradise act 3 (via stage select). There's a cutscene in it.

The only things I do now is just let inspiration come to me when it's needed.
Also bad profile pic because I don't have anything else in mind.

I've been working on a wolf sprite for the boss.
It should be a drop-in replacement for the current sprite image.

svgmovement, thanks for submitting the work. smile have you tried the sprite in the game (and watched the whole cutscene) ? it doesn't fully work

in my opinion, the attempt to improve the boss is totally valid. However, the expressions of pain and defeat aren't convincing, specially during the battle. The expression of anger, on the other hand, is much more appealing smile

I finally finished the major part of the sprite. Now it appears during the cutscenes.

I have changed the expressions to (hopefully) fit better with the boss.
Are they more convincing?

sorry it took me a while to respond sad

i think the new sprite is very nice! Good job. I have one suggestion: since we're in a battle, his first expression (from left to right) could be more representative of anger (but not as angry as the last one). Something like "I'll get you, Surge!!!". Not a serious, neutral pose, like the current one. If you take a look at the cutscene, you'll see that the wolf doesn't want any talking, he's 'provoking' a fight.

I've gotta tell you that the first thing that came (hahaha) into my mind when I saw those pictures was furry.
Honestly, I don't think it's a very nice idea having animal-like characters that are obviously inspired on Sonic's universe without having any reverence such as Dr. Eggman or whatsoever.
Plus, the main character looks like a mix between Fox from Starfox, Sparkster and Tails, not very original.
I don't like the rings' sprites, they look weird, even though all the pixel art should be, you know, redone. In fact, the sprites' styles don't match: we've got a main character with a more plain style although the boss itself has a more pixelized effect. That would be acceptable if the boss sprite were actually a resizable polygon, like Sega Genesis or SNES effects, but here it's just a lack of effort. If I were you I'd ask some well-known tallented pixel artists suck as un7 or PfP to do this job. You know, you're better at programing than anything else.
Another point is the boss engine. This boss looks like Megaman X3's first boss, and also reminds me of Sonic and Knuckles' boss from Flying Battery Act 1, I mean, couldn't you be more original?

You obviously need to gather people in a team in order to get those things fixed. But as far as I can remember, as a discussion board administrator and webmaster, I don't believe that would be, you know, possible. Even so I wish you the best and I hope that you've solved those little problems which remains in the minds of lots of developers who counted on your discussion boards and who also begged you not to close your site for stubborn reasons, but to give administrator rights to another person. Well, let's hope the past stays in the past and good luck, dude.

Yuush you raise good points, however work is never done until it's... done! sometimes it takes many iterations until getting the right look. This isn't even his final form

Hi,

The cutscene is too long, it needs to be faster, remember it's sonic, or surge is a slow man?

The boos is too hard for the first level, I hope to see this boos like one of the final boos or something.
