I was reading a Kotaku article about it, and i must say this has a lot of potential. Even if it's only being crowdfunded just now.
If anyone remembers 1997, Sony had released a similar project with severe limitations and steep price called Net Yaroze, commonly known as "The black Playstation", but it didn't catch on too much...
750 bucks for a Playstation developer kit (special console, cables, software, compilers, references, special memory card...), that in reality didn't have the potential to make a "real" Playstation game on a 650 MB CD-ROM. Not to discredit great classics like Rocks n' Gems, Bouncer, Terra Incognita or Blitter Boy, but all those games have a short life span, and are small in content due to platform limits. Some are infinite, others just pretty short because of memory limits.
Now this little baby "Ouya" is being made by people who want to make console games but also bypass product controls from the console companies, who dictate which games make it to the market for their systems.
Wanna play Minecraft on a console? or perhaps make your own console game? or just modify the hardware to make the ultimate game machine? With Ouya you can, and are encouraged to.
If you are interested in console game development, look out for this project. it may be here sooner than expected.

That sounds pretty cool. However that is quite a heavy price tag.

what 99 for Ouya in a year from here, or 750 for Yaroze in 1997 ?

"$950k target achieved in just eight hours. Amazing."

They already got Minecraft on XBLA, but it sounds cool. But does this mean we're aborting our arcade cabinet idea?

no, it means anyone with can develop console games real soon without wasting a ton of money in licensing and end up being predated by the oh-so-boring-but-so-pretty AAA games

Is that a game convention?

What I meant was that $99 is money I don't own, and if I owned it then I'd rather spend that on more important things such as my music.
