Topic: need help! we may lose the nightly builds system soon.

guys, we may lose the bleeding edge system soon. sad

currently, there's a linux machine in my university that, periodically, downloads the latest version of the source code from sourceforge, builds it (for linux and for windows) and puts the binaries online, so you guys can play a work-in-progress version of the game (without having to bother with coding blabbles). This all works automatically, and needs very little intervention from my part (it's just a bunch of shell scripts that must be updated every now and then). This is the bleeding edge system.

the thing is, i'm graduating now, and unfortunately I'll lose access to that machine. My undergrad account will be terminated, and hence, the current bleeding edge system will halt. I'm not sure if I'll have a similar machine soon enough to avoid the halting, so...

Does any of you have an online (24/7, or close to that) GNU/Linux (Debian-based) machine with shell access? a web space only is not enough; I need shell access. I would be using the machine to install compilers, Allegro, svn, and a few other programming stuff. After installing all the required software, my shell scripts would be scheduled to run automatically via cron, and the bleeding edge system would work again.

so... Help?

Re: need help! we may lose the nightly builds system soon.

I dont have such a machine at home, but I know that our job has a few Linux puters that could be configured to do this task. The thing is: I'm not sure they'll agree to set up one on the office. And... I'm no Linux user, but one of the ladies at our job is that. The only problem is that I'm on xmas vacation until January 9th 2012. How soon do you lose your access to this computer? I'll send this topic to my co-worker to see what he says.

Re: need help! we may lose the nightly builds system soon.

I don't know the exact day. Since the system administrators at my univ are on vacation as well, they're probably not eager to terminate accounts right now. My best guess is that they will disable old accounts when the new students drop by. This happens in February, but it's just a guess.

That should give us at least a month more of nightly builds. I dropped this question to my co-worker, no response so far, but I will bring this forward on our weekly meeting on the 9th January.

Re: need help! we may lose the nightly builds system soon.

my 2 cents:

should you lose any and all svn and auto-builds, you can build manually, and serve the files off your Dropbox public folder.
