I vote "we shouldn't care about it and let users cheat if they want to". That's not really important, as there's not online ranking or something like this. If users want to cheat, let them do this, but they will broke the gameplay, and it's stupid.
And, no, I don't think there could be any solution. With the source code, we could always find a solution to decrypt it.

Hm, it doesn't work.. I think it's an encoding problem because of the text written (something like 'À ' and it should be 'ç'). I use UTF-8. What encoding do you use ?

I tried to do the same thing with french language, so I modified the gui.png to http://omploader.org/vMWZ0aw and I modified the line 74 of font.c to:
        " !\"#$%&'()*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\\]^_´abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz{|}~\200\201\202éèaà"
(a char is wrong, yes, but that was only for testing) and I added ' 99 100 101 102' at the end of the line 2607 of config/sprite.def but it still doesn't work. Any idea ?
EDIT: mmmh, all the a (of this font) are changed to à....
