My own background:


How to draw like this with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite:
1 - Draw in CorelDRAW the vector graphics.
2 - When you're doing the gradients set a few color range between colors (10-15)
3 - Export and uncheck the antialiased mark
4 - Open in Corel PhotoPaint and change the color mode to 8 bit, select the options you wish to make the gradient with few colors to create a semi-tone effect
5 - Change the colors with the tools you know


I'm collecting already made art for games in OpenGameArt.org

The cutscene is too long, it needs to be faster, remember it's sonic, or surge is a slow man?

The boos is too hard for the first level, I hope to see this boos like one of the final boos or something.

I've updated my old bitmap conversions to svg (http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/forum/vi … hp?id=1019) in order to improve them.

You can edit the colors directly in the style/css inside the .svg file with a plain text editor.

Also you can include the svg file inside the readme html using the svg tag, and you will get scalable logo and character from now.

The license is CC, the same version and kind as the game.

I've downloaded a bleeding edge version and see that the 71 images in the 'images' folder (not subfolders) size is

1,75 MB (Size)
1,90 MB (Size in disk)

Compressing them with optipng

1,39 MB (Size)
1,55 MB (Size in disk)

Just drag and drop all the images to the .exe and it will compress all of them smile

I'ts a gooooood idea.

I'm not contributing nothing in a lot of time but If you want to make a game and you're the leader of the group you must take the big desitions, like changing all the SEGA characters to your own, expanding or not the engine, etc.

I've seen this problem in my own forum, I've a Game Development < http://www.windspro.org/c2-desarrollo-de-juegos > category, and the users want to contribute, but not as the developer expected. i.e. the graphics don't look as he want, etc.

"I want to help" says, but they has no idea about how to or basically don't have the skills to help.

If you see in that forum there are 2 main games 'Platform Island Adventures' and 'Maelyrian Strategy'. In the first game the developer accept the graphics of the users (I did some, and some that I did was not used too). But the final result was not the graphics that the developer want. Now the game is not active. (part because he want to do another game).

In the second game the developer do all the things, graphics and programming (the music is from other games..) and the project is in development, with releases once a week or two!

Also I've done some small games, with the help of no-one, I can use the graphics I do, put the music I want and add the features I like to have, no more.

But those are small games.

Open Surge want to be a great game, and already this game is very popular (in the meaning of 'is in a lot of sites') with updates or not, I can search in google Open Sonic and the people published this in thousands of top download websites, forums and the criticism is sometimes good, and sometimes bad because this is unfinished.

The people will get confused when the Open Sonic will not be updated anymore? and changed to Open Surge (I think only  a few people know that). It's like start over. And it's ok if you want it because it's your game.

Also at this time I'm not a player, a modder or a contributor of this game, because I've passed the Open Sonic stages smile but I talk as an old friend of the opensnc house.

I'm seeing in the forum nice images (avatar, screenshots) maybe someone want to edit with photoshop and give a more professional style, this is only exported unretouched with inkscape.

This is a first setup for Open Surge, it can be changed at all.

Script file for Inno Setup

* File association with an editor, by default Notepad++, but you can set the editor you want (you must copy the editor to the _Editor folder and change the editor script definitions (the first script lines))

* Added in Default Programs (by default as Notepad++ for Open Surge).

* You can edit the 'Open Surge Script' part in [Registry] and add the icon and the parameters you want. Also you can create more types to add different icons for each extension (by default is one type for all extensions)..

How to compile:

* Install inno setup (latest ver from innosetup.com)
* Add all open surge files to the 'Open Surge' folder.
* Add an editor to the folder _Editor. Change the editor definitions in the _OpenSurge.iss script.
* Add custom icons and images if you want uncommenting the ";style" part of the code. Copy the images and icon in the _Resources folder.
* Compile with inno setup [ctrl + f9]
* The output file is in the _Setup folder.


* By default is installed in the Public documents folder because Open Surge is a portable application to ensure that all people can edit the folder (because i don't know if open surge is Win Vista Win7 compatible - saving the settings in the appdata instead the app folder)

* The file association is by default for all users, but each user can change the association from the Default Programs.

The painting in those arts was automatically done with inkscape filters but putting those filters in the logo looks really bad because that I never painted the logo. Other way to paint the logo is masking each shadow and each light, but the final result I get don't like.

Also i've created the eye but really i don't like it so i've removed from the svg. i will try again smile
