Like Unity does. Everything in Unity is a Game Object, then you can attach to it scripts, that can be as you said Walk, Enemy, and more, like the graphics (2d or 3d), Physics, and so on. Even the camera is a game object.

I've added the source code for the language editor in the Open Surge GitHub organization

I think the mechanic is rotate the cylinder, or circle if we see it from a 2d perspective.

I noticed that also, seems that the automatic builds are not compiling or not enabled.

It's an old post, the problem is that I don't have the sources anymore.. Why in that time I was not using svn or git? Well I can do it again if is really needed.

Ok, is a good place to share code. You can even create an organization and put a lot of repositories together.

Edit: I made the organization and sent you to join, I'm trying to import the source with all the commit history.
Edit2: The import is done with all commit history available now on GitHub.

Nice to hear that.

I'm now studying computer science and learned C and Java. Making a compiler is too far from my current learning stage, so I'm impressed with your work.

Keep going and please update the main page of the site, not with the one I did a lot of time ago, but at least change it to reflect the current state of the engine.

Edit: And now I see you're using GitHub, you plan to move the game into it?

Now the site is official here and you can check it here
http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/beta/
If you want more stuff to be added please tell Alexandre he has acces to update the site.

In the same brickset add different sprites i.e. one wich each color you want to use. And then create the additional bricks. you will have all the bricks you need.

I've used that several years ago to make my first level.

Forget that! The unmodified file looks better in-game. I'll do all my background graphics vector.

Even better with full gradients

feel good, but i don't like the animation, it should be smooth, but the glass effect of the new item boxes is great!

Well I say it in your post it works smile

Is Object Pascal, Lazarus FPC SVN with BGRABitmap SVN. Basically installing it on linux you will lost a day smile

It works now

It's compatible, at least when I save I can see that your program add all the other stuff:

Edit (bug found): But there is a bug, it doesn't load the last brick, in this file test.png from my app must be 5 bricks and there are only 4

Edit 2: And why there are some 0kb files generated? Is saved 'test.brk' and 'test'

Hi, you've inspired me to design a tool to help the brickset creation.. It's to work with your program, use my app first and do the advanced stuff with your app
http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/forum/vi … ?pid=13346

AutoRect v0.1 (Brickset tool for automating brk creation tasks)
"Save time" yikes

DOWNLOAD
For Windows only
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lainz00 … z/download

Screenshot: http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/wiki/images/b/b3/Autorect_01.PNG

Input: http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/wiki/images/a/ab/Autorect_Test_image.png

Output:

brick 0
{
    sprite
    {
        source_file     images/test.png
        source_rect     2 2 169 167
        frame_size      169 167
    }
}
brick 1
{
    sprite
    {
        source_file     images/test.png
        source_rect     381 4 169 167
        frame_size      169 167
    }
}
brick 2
{
    sprite
    {
        source_file     images/test.png
        source_rect     202 7 169 167
        frame_size      169 167
    }
}
brick 3
{
    sprite
    {
        source_file     images/test.png
        source_rect     313 190 169 167
        frame_size      169 167
    }
}
brick 4
{
    sprite
    {
        source_file     images/test.png
        source_rect     96 191 169 167
        frame_size      169 167
    }
}

How it works: Open a png file with these conditions:

1) Each sprite MUST HAVE 4 black pixels rgb(0,0,0) in each corner (top-left,top-right,bottom-left,bottom-right) see test image.
2) Enjoy! The program create all the stuff!...
3) Not all! Then you must save the text to a brk file and edit with some other program like JBlocks http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/forum/vi … hp?id=1683 to add all the other stuff.

If after loading the image nothing is shown:
- You've provided an invalid image.
- Don't forget any black pixel and don't add black pixels between them.
- The rectangles doesn't have to be one up the other.

Open the Task Manager and close the process 'autorect.exe', else it will continue wasting memory....

Thanks, for now is basically a 'landing-page' or 'marketing-page' to convince people to download the game.

What things you wish to be added in the site?

How these look in-game, you can actually edit the original png file with those?

TheSeventhEmerald wrote:

Also, I think that the "marketing" is not very good. In my opinion this is the BEST Sonic 2D engine right now. Really flexible, and easy to learn and use; however, the number of downloads is not very high.
I mean, 900 downloads / week is good (I took the number from Sourceforge) but, if we consider the quality of this engine vs. that number of downloads, you realize that is very low. Sonic is a very well-known franchise. If try to focus on a bit more of marketing, I'm sure the forums will have new people. :D

Well, maybe we'll visit the forum the same as always, but it will have more activity. We can try also to extend a bit the content in the forums. For example, a section about tip & tricks and code tutorials made by users. It's something that there's on every game engine forum, and game asset section and custom-levels / quests section are usually separated. Also, it's possible to make a short demo levels for the 0.2.0 version, so it looks more complete to the user.
The same we can expand a bit the forum, we can try to focus in completing the wiki, at least, with basic resources. Some of them are incomplete.
And, of course, a bit more of Twitter and Facebook. I saw you have a Facebook group, with the main developers, and that's really good. I suggest to use Twitter too, to have feeedback with the users and announce news. Contact with Sonic fan-pages and forums, a lot of Sonic players would be interested in play this and try to make some levels. They will be interested in the use of Sonic characters and scenarios, so it would also be a good idea to upload some Sonic images, sprites files, and characters objects in order they can also use these characters.

In fact: in my opinion, we can improve the number of members simply giving the users some good resources (tutorials and tips, and Sonic resources so they can make Sonic fan games), making us more visible in social websites and so on. Also, it could be a good idea to convince the people that this is not only a Sonic engine, it's a complete general platformer engine, so we can reach more people. :)

What do you think?

I think that they need a fan page not a group in facebook. Dont forget google+. And check the beta site http://opensurge.bl.ee/

That's a good idea.

I share the things I did / found:

http://s28.postimg.org/57w41ujql/background1_orange.png
http://s23.postimg.org/yp0g6wyl7/background1_pink.png

How to draw like this with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite:
1 - Draw in CorelDRAW the vector graphics.
2 - When you're doing the gradients set a few color range between colors (10-15)
3 - Export and uncheck the antialiased mark
4 - Open in Corel PhotoPaint and change the color mode to 8 bit, select the options you wish to make the gradient with few colors to create a semi-tone effect
5 - Change the colors with the tools you know
